Interesting...

In California this passed, but so did this. They just advanced the rights of farm animals and took away the rights of gay and lesbian people.

I always feel uncultured because I never watch those political/discussion/news shows. I should so I'd be "up on the issues", but it's always just a bunch of people screaming over each other and I can't take it.

Frustration

So I ordered a pallet of flour that was supposed to come in on the 26th. On the 26th, when I go to unload it, they say "Nope, no flour on this truck." So, today, I go to unload the flour that I supposed was coming in a day late (because, damnit, I'm a baker, I neeeed that flour). Today, they say "Oh, we don't get a truck from that distributor today, but we got the flour invoice yesterday, just not the product." That means they sent the pallet somewhere else (into the ether?). Had I known this yesterday, I could have gone somewhere else to pick up some emergency flour, but since I just found out today, everything has screeched to a halt while I wait for somewhere that sells 50lb bags of flour to open for the day.

Saltsa!

Here is a recipe for some awesome pasta sauce.

.5 c olive oil
2 med red onions, chopped
2 medium carrots, peeled and chopped
5 cloves garlic, crushed
1 bunch celery (including leaves), chopped
3 small red bell peppers (all peppers seeded and chopped)
2 anaheim peppers
2 serrano peppers
2 cans of diced tomatoes
1 T oregano

Saute onions, carrots and garlic in olive oil. When onions are beginning to become tender, add celery. Cook a few minutes, stirring, then add peppers. When peppers become tender add tomatoes and oregano and allow to heat through. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

This is a sort of "saltsa" which is a Greek pasta sauce, to make it a bit more Italian, you can add tomato sauce or tomato paste and water, and red wine.

After seeing an exhibit of his work this week, I must say that Clifton Karhu is my new favorite artist.

About once a day, I get an e-mail thanking me for my interest in H&H Chevrolet, and stating that a representative will contact me. I am not, nor have I ever had any interest in H&H Chevrolet. I have responded, telling them that, but I keep getting the e-mails. I now flag them as spam. WTF?

It makes me a bit angry when I realize that some people have not shown up for shifts 2 separate times since the last time I had a day off. Not like "sick 2 days" but like "didn't come in Monday, didn't come in Thursday."

Wrath.

I won a prize at the state fair today by answering a beef trivia question. After I answered the person at the booth said, "You must eat a lot of beef!" Humour.

Duh

In the 20's Herbert Hoover championed the growth of subdivisions as a way to boost consumer spending. How does this work? Well, with people living farther apart in a more compartmentalized lifestyle, the camaraderie that they used to feel with people they shared their lives with has to be replaced with something. What might that be? Stuff. Literally. If you feel like you're missing something, why not go buy stuff? Maybe the stuff you buy will replace the stuff you're missing? (Hint: It won't.)

Some people's emotions are like an overripe peach. Maybe everyone is going out of their way to avoid hurting them, but they'll get bruised anyway just from sitting on the counter.

Don't say "we" when you mean "you".

"Oh, I have a great idea for something we could do on the breakfast bar!"

"...uh, ok?"

"We should put out a full set of breakfast items and leave it until right before lunch. We should make pancakes, french toast, scrambled eggs, a 'build your own omelet' section, bread pudding, bacon, and sausage! Oh, and maple syrup. That'll probably have to be put into individual containers ahead of time though. Wouldn't it be great if we did that?"

"Well, that sounds cool, but I'm the only cook who works in the morning so I'd have make, put out, and break down that whole shebang in addition to making and putting out a 35 item lunch set plus soups..."

"Is that a problem?"
-----
Addendum: I just found out that they're writing up the whole department for things in the walk-in not being labeled. I'm refusing to sign it since I'm a label NAZI. There's lots of unlabeled stuff on my rack, but most of it was put there (sans label) by the assistant manager, so that's buuullllshit.

This is a really lame management practice too. I mean, I get the whole "We can't figure out who's really doing it, so we can't write them up specifically." thing, but why on earth should I go on bothering to label everything if I'm going to get in trouble just the same as if I didn't?

We'll be on the overpass of 156th & Dodge from 7am to 1pm, show up for as long as you can, but the important times are 7-8 and 12-1. Food Not Bombs will be bringing lunch for us (yay!), and I'll have coffee in the morning. Whee!!!

Self-indulgent whining

Apparently, I am a huge jerk.

Despite constantly trying to do nice things for people and to be considerate, I inevitably end up making some tiny blunder that I don't even notice myself doing and negate all the good stuff I've done.

I can wine, I can dine, I can send flowers, I can surprise, I can delight, I can talk, I can listen, I can cook romantic dinners. In the end, all that matters or is remembered is that I inadvertantly made a statement of fact that someone didn't want to hear, and I'm a jerk.

All of the good things I do can't build me up any credit to let some small mistake slide, and not doing reciprocal good things doesn't do anything to take away someone's right to get angry.

In the end, once someone has decided to be angry, they will be. No matter what I do.
